Rohnert Park police officers leaped into a pond Saturday night, rescuing a 59-year-old woman and her two young granddaughters from a submerged SUV.

It was dark and raining when the woman drove her Jeep Grand Cherokee into the 6-foot-deep pond in the Las Casitas mobile home park around 8:50 p.m., the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety reported. She mistook the pond opening for a street while attempting to make a left turn off Rio Vista Lane, police said.

Officers Kieran Keaney and Mike Bacigalupi arrived within four minutes, finding the SUV about 15 feet from the edge of the pond and submerged up to the roof. They helped the woman and her 7-year-old granddaughter get to the edge, and also pulled the 3-year-old girl out of the vehicle through an open window, police said.

No one was injured.

The driver did not show any signs of being under the influence, police said.
