Fisherman dies in Tomales Bay

A fisherman died Sunday morning after becoming entangled in a fishing line and getting trapped under water near the mouth of Tomales Bay.

Coast Guard, Marin and Sonoma County sheriff's personnel all responded to the 9:37 a.m incident near Lawson's Landing.

The man was reported to be under water for 30 minutes and had to be freed by divers, said U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Elizabeth Scheidel.

Details were not immediately available on whether the man was fishing by himself or what type of boat he was on.

“Unfortunately the individual is deceased,“ said John Dell'Osso, a Pt. Reyes National Park official, who did not yet have details on the man's age or identity.

The CHP helicopter and Sonoma County sheriff's helicopter also assisted in the rescue attempt along with rangers from Pt. Reyes National Park.
