Southbound Highway 101 was closed for nearly two hours Saturday night after a fatal collision south of Todd Road in Santa Rosa.

A woman driving southbound in the fast lane reportedly rear-ended another vehicle, then left her car and began walking across two lanes of traffic to the west shoulder of the highway, according to the Highway Patrol.

She was struck and killed by a driver traveling in the slow lane at about 7:20 p.m.

Her name was not released late Saturday.

Traffic was rerouted to Todd Road, but the backup was immense as drivers made their way along Moorland and Corby avenues and Stony Point Road, according to the CHP.

"It's a mess," Sgt. Bob Barr said.

The freeway was reopened by 9:15 p.m., but traffic still moved slowly through the area, authorities said.
